2 Houston Police Officers Hurt in Dragging, Crash after Traffic Stop Attempt
Two Houston police officers were injured early Friday when one officer was dragged by a suspect fleeing a traffic stop, leading to a chase that ended in a crash.
The incident began shortly before 1 a.m. when police pulled over a vehicle and smelled a marijuana odor coming from it, KHOU-TV reports. A struggle ensued when the driver refused to exit the vehicle, and an officer was dragged a short distance by the car when her clothing became caught in the door as the suspect drove away.
The officer was able to get back into her cruiser with her partner, and a chase ensued. During the pursuit, the cruiser struck a tree, but the officers stayed on the suspect's trail, according to KPRC-TV.
Finally, the suspect was apprehended at his nearby apartment complex. He faces charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and evading arrest.
Both officers were taken to the hospital for injuries. They're both expected to recover.
